- THE LATEST MRAM RELATED NEWS |
Welcome to MRAM News. Read our MRAM Facts page for quick data.
This website has
the latest on the MRAM technology. MRAM
is short for
Magnetoresistive Random Access
Memory. This new type of memory was
created using the latest in nanotechnology. It uses electron spin to store data. Technology
experts believe MRAM will provide the ideal solution for storage needs of today's electronics.
Besides being a faster and more reliable memory solution, it also uses way less power than
memory options widely used these days such as DRAM. MRAM might one day replace your
computer's hard disk as main storage drive. MRAM has been in development since 2005
but is now being launched as commercial product available to consumers like you and me.
2007 may be the year that MRAM is mass produced, and might eventually be a competitor
to the popular FLASH memory now used in cell phones and digital cameras. Companies like
Motorola and Freescale are the main producers of MRAM. According to early information
MRAM memory will not be expensive as soon as mass production is initiated. Large
companies like IBM, Philips and others are researching MRAM as well. The interest is huge.
MRAM NEWS
07/10/2006 - Freescale will begin selling 4-MBIT MRAM modules to consumers.
Initial consumer prices are set at around 25 USD, in line with older memory options currently
on the market. A 16-MBIT version may be released at a later stage, though Freescale says
it will concentrate on the lower MBIT versions for now as it's main interest lies there.
07/10/2006 - Crocus Technology, a company specializing in fast magnetic random access
memory, has raised 17 million dollars in it's first round of financing. This is a promising sign
for the MRAM market. The funds allow the French company to employ engineers and support
staff who will be used to test it's line of memory products.
05/30/2006 - Micromem Technologies of Toronto, Canada has announced it is teaming
up with with Omron Corporation to investigate viable MRAM technologies. Omron will
be monitoring and evaluating the performance of Micromem's MRAM hardware. Micromem
has already solved many problems that could hamper the commercialization of it's products.
We can't wait to try out this new technology. We will keep you updated of any developments.
